Recess/Playground Expectations

Students are allowed free play outside every day during afternoon recess from 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students choose individual playground equipment in their designated area or team sports of their choice. Teachers and administrators are on duty to join in the fun and safeguard students. Expectations are for students to:

• Go to the restroom during the recess break before playing.

• Put all trash in the trashcans.

• Play fair.

• Take turns.

• Be courteous to all students.

• Avoid all rough-housing, horse-playing, play-fighting, or hitting of any sort.

**Adjustments may be needed according to health and safety policies. **

Hallway Procedures

Students are to walk on the right side of the hallway and either flipped or always tucked. Tape is placed on each side of the hallway for students to follow. Hallways must remain quiet, so students are expected to remain quiet. Students need to reframe from touching the walls to keep decorations neat. These procedures allow students to always stay safe and especially in case of emergency situations.

Cafeteria Guidelines

Students are to enter the cafeteria in an orderly fashion. Prior to entering the serving lines, students must wash their hands with soap and water. There will be assigned seating in the cafeteria and voice levels should be kept to a minimum. While in line, students should be quit and remain in their designated area.

Students are encouraged to eat breakfast and lunch at school. J. B. Maitland qualified for the CEP grant. All students will eat FREE for breakfast and lunch.

Students who do not plan to eat lunch provided by the cafeteria should bring their lunch to school with them in the morning. Parents may not habitually drop off student lunches in the office. All lunches not prepared in the cafeteria must be in appropriate packaging/containers. No packaging from outside vendors is allowed in the cafeteria. Example vendors include McDonald’s, Burger King, Sonic, and Dominos, etc.

Breakfast

J. B. Maitland received a grant for a free breakfast. As students enter the building, they will go straight to the cafeteria to wash their hands and retrieve a breakfast from the serving line and eat in the cafeteria prior to going into their homeroom class. From 7:30 a.m. - 7:50 a.m., students will eat their breakfast in the cafeteria and proceed to class for the start of News Clip at 7:45 a.m. Instruction begins at the 7:55 bell. There are procedures that faculty and staff will follow to ensure this runs smoothly.
