General Expectations and Guidelines

Bookbags

Students should have school appropriate school bags that can hold 8 ½ x 11 size folders and papers. Students are not allowed to use wheels attached to bookbags while on campus. Bookbags should be kept neat and free of clutter and food/drinks.

Homework

A homework chart will be sent home weekly with test dates and homework for the week. Please look for this in their folder. Homework assignments are based on skills taught in class, and students should have the knowledge to complete it with little to no assistance at home. Missed homework assignments should be charted on a homework chart, but not affect the student’s overall behavior conduct.

Test Folder

Test papers will be sent home on Wednesday in the Mustang Messenger. The papers need to be signed and returned the next day. Students who do not return papers will no longer have their papers sent home until the first set is returned.

Library

All students will visit the library twice a week. Students in 1st – 5th grade will be allowed to check out books. All students are responsible for the books that are checked out to them. The students will exchange the books weekly. Any damage to these books will follow the Textbook policy.

Hallway Procedures

Students are to walk on the right side of the hallway and either flipped or tucked at all times. Tape is placed on each side of the hallway for students to follow. Hallways must remain quiet, so students are expected to remain quiet. Students need to reframe from touching the walls to keep decorations neat.

Health Services/Medication Policy

It is unlawful for the school to administer medication or for students to take any form of medication without a form completed by the child’s physician and permission signed by the child’s parent.

  • The parent/guardian must meet with the school nurse to complete a Health Plan before medication can be administered.
  • Any medicine to be administered at school must be brought to school by the parent/guardian in the original pharmacy container and prescribed for the child to whom it is to be given. The label must include the child’s name, physician’s name, drug name, dose, directions for administering and date of prescription.
  • Parent/guardian must renew the permission for medication each school year.  All prescriptions and medication permission forms expire at the end of the current school year.
  • If proper permission for the medication is not obtained, no school personnel may administer the medicine.
  • This policy includes all prescription and non-prescription medicines needed by a child on a regular or “as needed” basis (i.e., inhalers for asthma patients).

More information regarding Health Services can be found in A Guide for SMP Schools / Health Services (stmaryk12.net) (/Page/9187)

Each child will be assigned his/her own laptop for school use and will be checked out to his/her name through our library. Any misuse or intentional damage will result in disciplinary actions.
